Last Monday, an agreement was signed at the Military Aviation Works No. 2 (WZL No. 2) in Bydgoszcz between the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), the owner of the Bydgoszcz facility, and the U.S. defense company Anduril to launch the production of low-cost Barracuda cruise missiles and their launchers in Poland. A few days later, U.S. President Donald Trump referred to the agreement.
„These are highly advanced and fast missiles, and we are carrying out this project together with Poland,” President Donald Trump said during a press conference at the NATO summit in Turkey. „Poland is doing very well.”
The Barracuda 500M is a cruise missile with a range of nearly 1,000 kilometers. Its relatively low production cost makes it suitable for large-scale deployment on the battlefield. Poland has not yet placed an order for the Barracuda system. However, in addition to the American side, representatives from Lithuania and Estonia also took part in the agreement signed on Tuesday, which may indicate their interest in purchasing the system.
In the long term, the possibility of „Polonizing” the Barracuda has not been ruled out by involving Polish subcontractors in its production.
